The original section known as the Grand Hotel was designed by Charles Webb and constructed by Thomas Cockram & Co on the corner of Spring and Little Collins Streets in 1883. The building was extended along Spring Street in 1887-1888, again to the design of Charles Webb, and became the Grand Coffee Palace. In 1920 Melbourne Hotels Limited purchased the Grand Coffee Palace and the Old White Hart Hotel on the corner of Spring and Bourke Streets. Both buildings were refurbished and incorporated to become the Winsdor Hotel by Sydney architects Robertson and Marks in conjunction with Henry H Kemp of Melbourne. Further alterations were made during the 1940’s and 1950’s. The Old White Hart Hotel was demolished in 1961 and replaced by the current annexe designed by Harry A. Norris on  the corner of Spring and Bourke Streets.
